Landing at the Schumacher Quartier

On the grounds of the former Berlin-Tegel Airport, the so called Schumacher Quartier is taking shape: a new urban neighbourhood defined by density and a clear perimeter-block structure. On Plot 12, buildings of varying heights, typologies and façade treatments come together to create an enclosed ensemble. Each entrance has its own architectural expression, providing every address with a distinct identity Apartements, a nursery and commercial spaces are gathered around a shared courtyard. A variety of residential layouts and access typologies makes room for different ways of living. Open access galleries and planted recesses connect inside and outside, creating spaces for people to meet. Generous ceiling heights give the ground floor a distinctive character and allow commercial spaces to adapt to diverse uses. A roof garden, planted façades and green roofs bring nature into the architecture. With dedicated biodiversity areas and an integrated rainwater strategy, they shape the project’s ecological approach and contribute to a more balanced microclimate throughout the neighbourhood.
