Close to the S-Bahn station in Köpenick, around 100 affordable apartments are being built on a corner site between a residential area, the Wuhle river, and the railway line. Shared rooms on the ground floor and a café at the central corner create spaces for meeting and exchange. A spacious outdoor area with places to play and relax connects residents with the neighborhood and opens the building toward the nearby riverside landscape. Access is provided by two stairwells and open-air corridors, which efficiently connect the compact apartments. The upper floors of both building wings are built entirely in timber modular construction. A façade element at the prominent corner makes the wood visible from the outside. The corridors and prefabricated balconies are fitted with expanded metal railings in reseda green, the building’s defining accent color.
